Kambo
The Medicine
Kambo is the name of a secretion from the Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog. Its scientific name is Phyllomedusa Bicolour.
Kambo has been used for centuries by Native Amazonian tribes to enhance their hunting skills: by increasing stamina and speed, sharpening mental and sensory focus and by removing dark energy or bad luck.
Kambo is used in the jungle against Malaria, snake bites, fever, infections and fertilityproblems. It purifies, detoxifies and strengthens both body and mind. It reduces pain and strengthens life force and resistance.
An Italian scientist, Vittorio Erspamer of the University of Rome was the first person to analyze Kambo in a laboratory. In 1986, he wrote that it contains a ‘fantastic chemical cocktail with potential medical applications, unequalled by any other amphibian’. The chemicals he referred to are called peptides (a short chain of amino acids linked by chemical bonds).
Peptides help the body by reducing inflammation, improving immune function, and preventing the formation of blood clots. They can also lower blood pressure and kill microbes. In the Western world, only certain peptides have been studied. More research is needed to substantiate the benefits of the complete Kambo cocktail.
The popularity and use of Kambo as a natural support to healing is spreading worldwide. A healing will be more profound if a client is open to receiving what the medicine has to teach them. This includes a trust in the Ancestral Knowledge of Indigenous communities; a willingness to make lifestyle changes to prevent further injury; the ability to sit through and welcome the discomfort of the healing process and an overall commitment to understanding how the condition came to be. Facilitators and users alike, believe that the Phyllomedusa Bicolor could open the door to new treatments for many ailments.
Even one Kambo session can be beneficial for a reset, detox or even a full healing but sometimes we need to go deeper. The medicine may prioritize other disharmonies in the body before addressing the issue you are aware of. Giving the medicine more opportunities to sweep through has higher potential in healing degenerative or chronic conditions. A good starting point is 3 sessions within 1 month.
Extraction
Kambo is not a poison as is commonly believed, but a secretion used for protection. The frog is found in the Upper Amazon Rainforest where it is caught by imitating its lure call. The animal is tied to posts and tickled in the nostril with a blade of grass. This agitates the frog who produces a milky substance all over its body. The secretion is gently scraped off the frog and transferred onto a wooden board where it dries. Ideally the extraction is completed using prayer, tobacco and a great deal of gratitude and respect. The frog is then returned to its natural habitat.
Physical
Kambo boosts the immune system, stimulates the lymphatic system, nurtures the nervous system and restores balance to the endocrine system. It simultaneously unleashes a detox, anti-inflammatory and analgesic process. It releases toxins stuck in the body, cleaning the liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, intestines and glands. It stops degenerative and/or inflammatory processes and favours cellular regeneration.
Emotional
Traumatic events leave a mark on the body. Unprocessed emotions and unresolved conflict get stuck, leading to disease over time. Kambo clears out subtle energies lodged in the organs and blood (manifesting as tumors, cysts and mucus). This removal process can cause an emotional release, bringing conflicts to the surface. With the help of Kambo, people have been freed from years of pain, recovering a forgotten sense of peace.
Mental
Due to the immense emotional and physical release, the brain’s response changes. A window is opened for reprogramming mental patterns, rooted ideas and self-destructive thought structures. Kambo offers a deep cleansing of the energy field, improving mental clarity and focus. Some experience deeper awareness, more strength and newfound motivation, resulting in dramatic improvements in health.

THE CEREMONY
Come to your ceremony with an empty stomach, fasting for at least 8 hours before applying Kambo. Having dinner the night before Kambo is ok, as long as its not eaten too late.
Drink 1-2 litres of water within the hour of arriving at your ceremony (if your appointment is at 9am, drink 1.5 litres of water starting at 8am). You can drink the remaining water when you arrive. Water eases the purge, giving the medicine a vehicle to travel through the body. It also assists in expelling toxins out of your body.
Before we apply Kambo, I will smudge you using white sage and offer Rapé. During your Rapé process, I will chant the Mantra to Ma Anandamayee, calling in Her guidance and protection. I will then clean the area of the body where the medicine will be applied.
Kambo enters the lymphatic system through openings in the skin called points, portals or gates. These points are burnt into the top layer of your skin using a small stick. The medicine is rehydrated using your saliva, initiating the process of healing with your own DNA. The mixture is applied to each opening and quickly spreads through the lymphatic system, waking up the body’s natural ability to heal on a cellular level. This boosts your immune system.
Depending on your reason for taking Kambo, your health status, your sensitivity to substances, the amount of sessions you intend to receive and any time restrictions on the day of your treatment, we may decide to begin with a small dose. Some people go out of body as a way to avoid extreme discomfort; a smaller dose introduces the medicine gradually. It offers the same benefits but at a gentler pace. The effects are usually milder and there is often no purge. If you plan on only receiving one Kambo session, I recommend aiming for 3-5 points.
A Kambo ceremony usually takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. During the ceremony I will sing and do a sound healing to ease you through your discomfort. I will monitor your reaction to the medicine and support you in your process in any way I can.
The first effects consist of an increasing feeling of warmth in the upper body, blushing and a faster heart rate. The medicine scans the body finding areas needing support. You may experience throbbing or burning sensations in areas where the medicine is at work. The blood vessels dilate and blood flow increases. You may become dizzy, nauseous, foggy or shaky. Fainting can occur and you may experience difficulty swallowing. Other common reactions include tingling in your hands and feet as well as swelling, usually in the face, ears and throat.
The peptides remove toxicity from the body via the stomach, saliva or pores. Purging can take a number of forms including vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, crying and making sound. The discomfort is an accumulation of toxins (physical and emotional) in your body, wanting to be released.
After purging, nausea begins to subside. The medicine is usually removed after 30-40 minutes. I will then clean the wound and apply Dragon’s Blood to aid the formation of a scab and speed up the healing process. The burn marks will heal and fade with time, but depending on your skin type and colour, you may always have small visible scars to remind you of this powerful process.
Take the necessary rest after your process. You can eat and drink normally once the session is over and effects have worn off. Directly following a Kambo session you may feel an increase of energy, stamina, clarity and wellbeing or you may feel tired and weak for a day or two. Although rare, the purge and swelling can continue for several hours or even days after the treatment.
