There is no guarantee that you will experience any swelling, but if you do, typically the swelling comes down towards the end of the session, or by the end of the day. In rare circumstances, you may continue to be swollen for a couple days. Alternate hot and cold compresses to relieve the swelling.

Everyone’s skin heals differently. Usually scars fade to nearly invisible. Also the placement of your points may affect the degree to which scarring occurs. Some areas have thinner skin than others. Your aftercare also may affect the healing process.

The medicine works intensively for approximately 15 minutes. I leave the medicine on the body for at least 30 minutes. The full ceremony can last anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hours.

Although a diet is not obligatory, the cleaner you eat prior to the ceremony, the more profound your healing will be. Following my suggested diet will demonstrate your respect for the medicine and it can even help with integration. It’s also a good idea to stay well-hydrated, before and after.

It is not recommended to smoke Bufo if you have a history of mental illness. It is also not wise to take Bufo if you’re on medication for this problem or if you’ve had any sort of brain trauma.
